CHANDIGARH, Nov 22: An electronics dealer has been directed by the UT Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum to refund the price of a defective colour television along with costs of Rs 1,500 and interest at the rate of 12 per cent.Mehir Ban Singh of Shimla purchased a Salora Colour TV from Pioneer Electronics, Sector 35, during a special scheme. According to the complainant, the TV was defective and major components had to be replaced. The TV developed defects twice even after being repaired. But the opposite party failed to get it repaired. The forum comprising president R P Bajaj and members H S Walia and Kamlesh Gupta observed, ``the intention of the opposite party does not appear to be fair right from the inception since the scheme showed that the TV model sold was not the one offered in the scheme''.
The counsel for Pioneer Electronics maintained that both the models were of the same quality. But the forum maintained ``had it been so the models would have been numbered differently.'' Concluding that the model of colour television sold was defective, the forum directed the opposite party to refund the price of the TV with interest at the rate of 12 per cent and costs of Rs 1,500.
