PANCHKULA, Nov 22: ``Ghaggar Utsav'' was organised today near the Nada Sahib bridge as part of the World Heritage Week celebrations.The function was organised by the Bahawalpur Welfare Association in collaboration with the Federation of Migrant Groups from North Western India, now Pakistan.
D R Sharma, head of the Department of Sanskrit, Panjab University, traced the history of river Ghaggar saying, ``the civilisation around this river flourished around the same time as the Indus Valley civilisation. It was destroyed as the river dried up due to climatic changes in the catchment area of its tributaries situated in the Bahawalpur state, now part of Punjab state in Pakistan''.
A yagna was performed and community langar was organised. A cultural programme depicting the culture of Bahawalpur area was also organised.
