CHANDIGARH, Nov 22: The host of the PU Zone A Youth fest, Government College for Girls, Sector 11, bagged the maximum number of first prizes, both in the group and individual items at the three day festival, which concluded here today.While GCG-11 won 13 of the total 27 first positions, MCM DAV College, Sector 36 came second with 7 first positions. The host college also had the distinction of participating in most events. The other participating colleges did not receive a first prize at the college level but received prizes in the individual category. On the concluding day today, a large number of students thronged the main hall to enjoy the colourful group dance performances including the giddha.
The group dances were a journey across the land with performances in Bihu from Assam, Lavni from Maharashtra, Manipuri dance and Braj ki Holi recreating the ambience of the Spring festival. However, enthusiasm was at its peak during the favourite giddha which drew thunderous applause. The highlight of the day was the "Select Show'', where prize winning solo song and dance items of various colleges were staged. Presiding over the evening session, Adviser to the UT Administrator, Jagdish Sagar appreciated the talent of the students in various activities and the organisational skills of the host college. College principal, Vijay Lakshmi said that there was no room for controversies this time, since "the judges were appointed by the Director, Youth Festival and no one knew about them till they arrived''.
Following are the results of various competitions in order of merit:
Classical dance: Preeti Sukhija (GCG-11); K. Rawat (GCG-42).
Group Dance (General): The team of GCG-11 bagged the first prize, Government Home Science College, Sector 10 won the second prize and GCG-42 won the third prize.
Individual prizes: Prabhjot Kaur (Government Home Science College, Sector 10); Ramota (SGGS College, Sector 26); Rajni (GCG-42).
Giddha: GCG-42 bagged the first prize; while the team of SGGS College, Sector 26 won the second prize; GCG-11 won the third prize.
Individual prizes: Rajpal Warang (SGGS College, Sector 26); Amandeep (GCG-42); Gurpreet (GCG-11).
Poem Recitation: Radhika Malhotra ( GCG-11); Sunaina (MCM DAV College, Sector 36); Puneet Sahota (GCG-11).
Debate: Shalini (SGGS College for Women, Sector 26); Harleen Sachdeva (Dev Samaj College for Girls, Sector 45); Kanika Agnihotri (GCG-11).
The team of MCM DAV College, Sector 36 comprising of Swati Singh, Aneeta Harsh and Gulneer Puri won the first position; Rupa Ghosh, Binny Chopra and Latika of GCG-11 won the second position, Poonam Kapoor, Balpreet Kaur and Anjali Soni of GCG-42 won the third position.
Priya of Government college for Girls, Sector 11 won the first position in Histrionics. Plays: GCG-11 bagged the first position for enacting Punjabi play "Mitti rudan kare" and G CG- 42 won the second position for their play "Jasma Odan". Shelley of GCG-11 was adjudged the best actress in the individual category; Neelam, GCG-42 came second and Neelam, GCG-11 came third.
