PUNE, Nov 22: Income Tax and Deccan Gymkhana `A' finished at the top with six points each in their respective pools to enter the final round of the Pune District Volleyball Championship, organised by Poona District Volleyball Association at Deccan Gymkhana here today.Deccan Gymkhana outplayed their opponents through Ghadsasi and Kisore Patare who were excellent in both scoring and defence. Income Tax playing in the pool `B' had a tough time against Bank of Maharashtra. Income tax took the first set 15-2 but BOM defended well to take the second set 13-15. 50 year old Vijay Girme of Income tax played with vast experience and was very quick at the net, which helped their team to win the third set 15-11.
In the qualifying round of pool `A' Income tax defeated Bank of Maharashtra (15-10, 15-6), Nav Yug Krida Mandal (Saswad) (15-3, 15-6) and Deccan Gymkhana `B' (15-5, 15-9). In pool `B' Deccan Gymkhana `A' won over Maharana Pratap Sangh (15-10, 15-6). District Coaching Centre (15-3, 15-6) and Arya Kridoddharak Mandal (15-10, 15-8).
The championship has attracted nine teams from Pune district and the selected players will represent Pune District for the state championship at Bheed next month.
