JALANDAR, Nov 23: Barjinder Singh Hamdard, MP, and chief editor of Ajit Group of Newspapers, today resigned as president of the executive committee of Anandpur Sahib Foundation for the trecenetnary celebrations of the birth of Khalsa, alleging ``a deep-rooted conspiracy by some senior leaders occupying high religious positions for decades to sabotage the entire project''.In a statement, accompanying a two-page resignation letter sent to Punjab chief minister, Parkash Singh Badal, Hamdard accused several of Badal's senior colleagues of ``trying to torpedo the historic event and of working overtime to shatter the dream and vision of the chief minister and of the entire panth''.
Hamdard, who did not take part in yesterday's function held at Anandpur Sahib, expressed his deep hurt at the ``double-speak'' of some senior leaders on several sensitive and religious matters, Hamdard claimed that the design of Nishan-e-Khalsa, had been approved twice, among others, by SGPC president Gurcharan Singh Tohra, but, objections against the design were raised by Akal Takht Jathedar Ranjit Singh and others.
In his resignation letter, Hamdard said ``it is a matter of grave concern for all of us that activities of some of these people have the potential to pose a serious danger to the atmosphere of peace and amity in the State for which you (Badal) have worked.'' ``I am worried about the completion of the great projects'' the letter added.
He said ``in the atmosphere so vitiated by self-seeking, ego-stricken people, it may not not be possible or appropriate for me to continue to remain the president of the executive committee of Anandpur Sahib Foundation''. However, Hamdard assured that his cooperation for the purpose of completing the projects would always be available to the chief minister.
