Express News Service

NOVEMBER 23: Pinki Virani, a journalist, has written a letter to the Chief Justice of Bombay High Court demanding that her letter be taken up as a suo moto writ petition for constituting a panel which can medically re-examine Aruna Shanbag a 50-year-old nurse who was brutally raped and strangulated with a dog-chain and left partially brain dead.

Shanbag has been in semi-coma state at KEM Hospital for the last 25 years. This letter has been submitted to the Chief Justice on November 18. The panel should consist of the Dean of KEM Pragnya Pai. Dr Pravin Shah, head of KEM's neurology department, Dr G H Tilve who was head of Department of Medicine till last November and therefore responsible for her care till then, Dr Barfiwalla, head of dental department since Aruna's teeth require intensive attention and perhaps complete removal and Dr Rajesh Parikh, Virani suggested.
