VADODARA, Nov 23: Water supply in the city has come under a cloud again with the level of the Mahisagar falling, even as the Vadodara Municipal Corporation digs ponds and channels to promote water supply to the french wells in the river.Talking to Express Newsline, Additional City Engineer B S Trapasia said the VMC had written to the State government on Saturday, requesting it to monitor the water released into the Mahisagar from the Panam dam. While ideally the level should be 6.5 meters at Poicha french well, the level on Monday was 6.4 m.
The 15 lakh population of the city needs 4.75 to 5 crore gallons daily; there is currently a shortfall of 25 lakh gallon. Trapasia said the VMC was already receiving sporadic complaints about the water supply from various parts of the city.
Ruling out the possibility of water cuts, Trapasia said 50 per cent work to lay ponds and channels near the four french wells had been completed.
