CHANDIGARH, Nov 23: On the lookout for those involved in the gang-rape and dacoity in Khuda Lahora and multiple burglaries in other villages, the CIA staff of the City police have arrested six persons including the leader of the dreaded gang that committed dacoities in UT villages dressed as policemen earlier this year. Police claim that four country-made pistols, other arms, 2 kg charas and three stolen scooters have been recovered. While 22 cases have been solved, five fresh cases have been registered.Police also claim that the arrests have led to the identification of the gang responsible for the recent strikes at Khuda Lahora, Dhanas, Raipur Khurd and Dadu Majra Colony. Rohit, a member of the gang arrested, is said to be in contact with the said gang, sources said. Police parties have been sent out to nab him, it was added. Interestingly, Sanjay, a gang member, who is still at large, was earlier a Home Guard volunteer from the City, police added.
In raids carried out early this morning, the police claim to have nabbed Om Pal alias Saini, a resident of Janata Colony, Sagar alias Guddu of Ram Durbar Phase-II, Ravi of Sector 37, Bhinder of Sector 24, Jasbir alias Neenu and Shakuntala, a resident of Sector 33. The five men are wanted in dacoities, robberies, thefts and snatching, UT Inspector General of Police R.P. Singh, announced at a press conference, this afternoon.
The woman has been arrested for harbouring Saini, who besides being a proclaimed offender in a case of attempt to murder, is also the leader of the dreaded gang which was busted by the police in March, police said. Saini had managed to evade arrest then and form a new gang with the help of those arrested today, it was added.
``After the gang-rape in Khuda Lahora, the SSP assigned the CIA the task of nabbing Saini a prime suspect in the incidents,'' police sources said.
In a raid conducted by a team led by the CIA chief KIP Singh this morning, the police caught Saini, Ravi and Sagar from the thicket behind the cremation ground in Sector 25 and recovered two loaded country-made revolvers from them, the IGP said. The group was planning to kill a local businessman. Following their arrests, the police nabbed Jasbir and Bhinder and recovered the charas, it was added. Saini reportedly confessed that he had been living with Shakuntala in her Sector 33 residence. The police arrested the woman and recovered three stolen scooters, firearms and Saini's clothes from her house.
The gang is reportedly involved in two dacoities, one burglary, nine cases of robberies and snatching, theft of six cars and four scooters, police said. ``More cases are expected to be solved during interrogation,''police sources said.
