Man stabbed to death
A 25-year-old man was stabbed to death in the Kamla market area of central Delhi last night. The victim, Dinesh, was returning home from his stationery shop along with two friends, Yogesh and Deepak. They were apparently stopped on Minto Road by four persons -- Ajay, Abhay, Vijay and Rajender -- who fled in a car after the incident. The post-mortem examination was conducted this evening and Dinesh's body was cremated around 5 p.m. under police protection. The victim's neighbours and relatives tried to stop the cremation until the accused were arrested. The Sitaram Bazaar area in Hauz Qazi remained tense today and a platoon of para-military forces was deployed here.

Preliminary investigations have revealed that Dinesh had stabbed Vijay on January 17 and was out on bail in the case. The police say that the deceased had five criminal cases registered against him. He had been externed from the Capital for 18 months and had returned after getting a pardon.

Jewellery shop robbed
Four armed men barged into a jewellery shop and decamped with cash amounting to Rs 10,000 and 350 gm of gold jewellery in old Seelampur on Sunday night. The assailants tied up shopkeepers Sheikh and Jahangir while carrying out the robbery.

Robbery in Subhash Nagar
Two youths robbed a Subhash Nagar family of Rs 50,000 in cash and gold jewellery on Monday. The robbers reportedly walked into the north-east Delhi house and asked for water. They bound and gagged house-owner Krishan Sharma's wife who was alone at home. The woman lost consciousness and when she came to, the house had been ransacked. The police say the assailants could have been labourers who had worked in the house a week ago.

Arms haul in Najafgarh
The Najafgarh police have arrested Vinod Kumar, Jagjit Singh and Sanjay on charge of illegal possession of arms. The police said that a car was intercepted for checking being carried out in view of the forthcoming elections. The police recovered a single barrel gun with four live cartridges. Jagjit Singh had a double barrel gun whereas Sanjay was in possession of a belt containing 16 live rounds. The two had licenses valid only in Haryana.
