Bara Singh claims best athlete award

CHANDIGARH, Nov 23: Bara Singh of Hi-Tech Agriculture Branch, Ludhiana was awarded the best athlete award in the Punjab and Sind Bank Inter-Zone sport meet held yesterday at Government College for Men, Sector 11.

Bara Singh got first positions in 100 and 200 metres events.

Results
100m: 1 Bara Singh, 2 Sukhwinder Singh. 200m: 1 Bara Singh, 2 Sukhwinder Singh. 400m: 1 Mohan Singh, 2 Sukhwinder Singh. 800m: 1 Jagroop Singh, 2 Gurcharan Singh. 1,500m: 1 Jagroop Singh, 2 Mohan Singh. High jump: 1 Subhash Chander, 2 Dangal Singh. Long jump: 1 GS Pallah, 2 Subhash Chander. Discus throw: 1 Bhupinder Singh, 2 Tarlochan Singh. Shot put: 1 Gurminder Singh, 2 Tarlochan Singh. Hammer throw: 1 Sampuran Singh, 2 Tarlochan Singh. Carrom (singles): 1 NS Pahwa, 2 Gursagar Singh. Doubles: 1 HS Nehra and NS Pawa, 2 Balbir Singh and AS Ahuja. Table tennis: 1 Sunil Manchanda, 2 AS Ahuja. Badminton (singles): 1 RS Arora, 2 GS Shah. Doubles: 1 Lekhi Ram Sharma and SC Rahlan, 2 RS Arora and GS Sandhu.

Gymnastic team
A 10-member Indian team will compete in the Grasp International Gymnastic Tournament to be held in Gloucester from December 5 to 10. According to P S Virk, general secretary of the Gymnastic Federation of India, the team was selected during the trials held in Patiala.

Team: Vikas Pandey, Mayank Srivastava, Gaurav Shah, Rohit Yadav, Mohinder Singh Deo (all UP).
Girls: Anuradha Binde (Maharashtra), Sukhbir Kaur (Punjab), Neha Guhad (Maharashtra), Rohika (Punjab).
Coaches: Khusanjan Kurbanov and Jagtar Singh.
