Narender, Promila win Otto Peltzer races

NEW DELHI, November 23: Narender Chauhan (National stadium) and Promila (SMG) emerged winners in the 800m events of the junior boys and girls sections, respectively, in the Reebok Otto Peltzer road races, held at the National Stadium yesterday. Promila timed 2.50 while Narender clocked 2.47.

Promila's collegues Laxmi (3:01) and Asha (3:05) finished in that order to claim the silver and bronze respectively.

Ashok and Surender, both of National Stadium, timed 2.53 and 2.55 for the second and third positions.

In senior boys and girls sections, Vijender (8.17) and Sharmila (SMG,9.45) were adjudged winners in 2.5 kms while Rajpal (15.32) and Bhagwati (Youth club, 19.46) got the first positions in the 5-km events.

Raj Kumar and Manoj Kumar finished in that order while among women, Rajshree Chaturvedi of Oriental Insurance came second behind Bhagwati.

Khurana dedly
Fine spell of bowling by 14-year-old Vivek Khurana (3 for 15) and a good knock by Deepak Sharma (57) helped Salwan Boys beat Hansraj Model School by 56 runs in the semi-final of the Chacha Nehru memorial inter-school invitation tournament at Salwan Boys school grounds.

Brief Scores: 190 for 6 (Deepak Sharma 57, Bhupender Dhoopar 41, Karun Jethi 39, Anish Suri 2 for 31). Hansraj: 134 (Tajesh Anand 29, Mandeep Singh26, Vivek Khurana 3 for 15, Chetan Sharma 2 for 20, Bhupender Dhoopar 2 for 25).

Double for Shilpa
Shilpa Dalmiya earned a `double' when she added the girls under-12 title to the under-10 crown she had won the previous day in the Anurag Sengupta memorial mini tennis championship, organised by Himanshu's Tennis Clinic and laxman Tennis Academy here today.

In boys under-12 final, Sidharthh Gulati defeated Sahil Vasudev 6-3, 6-1.

Shilpa overcame Bhavani Trimurthy 6-3, 6-1 in girls final.
