MUMBAI, December 1: University Department of Chemical Technology students suspended their agitation today after the University of Mumbai took the necessary steps to fulfil their demands for a hike. The students have set authorities a December 7 deadline to fulfil their demands.The students struck on Monday demanding that the UGC (technological wing) implement the revised hike approved by the Central Government. Pro Vice-Chancellor Dr Naresh Chandra told Express Line, ``The students sent us a letter saying they are suspending the strike.'' One of the agitating students, SRF Parasu Veera, said the varsity had agreed to pay SRF (engineering and technology) students an ad hoc amount of Rs 5,000 for the first two years and Rs 5,600 for the subsequent years. The payments will be effected by taking the UGC into confidence.
According to Veera, the Director of UDCT issued a circular this evening, dated December 2, to this effect.
