Mamata & BJP receive drubbing in civic polls

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
CALCUTTA, Dec 1: Close on the heels of their defeat in the Assembly by-polls in West Bengal, Trinamool Congress-BJP combine has received yet another drubbing in elections to two municipalities and Howrah Municipal Corporation.

The combine was pushed to the third place by Congress, which vastly improved its fortune in the civic election after remaining in the wilderness for the last eight months since the Lok Sabha election.

The Congress made a clean sweep in Berhampur municipality polls, bagging all the 23 wards and emerged as the single-largest party in the Krishnagar municipality by securing 11 out of 23 wards. In the 50-member Howrah Municipal Corporation, which was re-captured by the ruling Left Front, Congress finished second.
