HC admits pleas on AP dinner row

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
HYDERABAD, Dec 1: A division Bench of the Andhra Pradesh High Court today admitted two public interest writ petitions seeking a Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) probe into the controversial dinner hosted in honour of the state Irrigation Minister Tummala Nageshwar Rao at Marlakunta village recently.

The Bench admitted the petitions on the basis of the statement made by the government that it had changed the enquiry officer probing the incident. The Bench, comprising Justices B Subhashan Reddy and A Hanumanthu, also directed the state and Central governments to file their counter affidavits by December 16 on the petitions filed by B Purushotham Reddy and R Satyanarayana Reddy.

The petitioners' counsel K Ashok Reddy said the government had changed the enquiry officer under political pressure and said the truth would come to light if the incident is investigated by the CBI.
