Bangalore, Dec 1: The heroics of openers Debang Gandhi and Sadagopan Ramesh notwithstanding, India A surrendered to West Indies A by 89 runs in the first four-day `Test' at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium on Tuesday.Chasing a victory target of 395 runs, India A were given a brilliant start by the openers and were on course of a win, but lost their last nine wickets for 111 runs to be bowled out for 305.
Replying to West Indies' first innings total of 228, India had scored 103 runs and allowed the visitors to pile up 269 runs in the second essay.
Resuming at the overnight score of 108 for no wicket, Gandhi (53) and Ramesh (51) began positively, scoring almost at four runs an over. While it was Gandhi who dominated their stand on Monday, it was Ramesh's turn today, lifting left-arm spinner Neil McGarrel for a straight six that landed close to the press box.
As India A neared the 200-mark and Gandhi his century, he was run out. The first wicket stand of 194 (295m, 362b) is the highest for any wicket for IndiaA. Gandhi, in his 83, had 10 hits to the fence.
