Andolan to stage protest
The Monghvari Virodhi Jan Andolan (Action Committee against Price-Rise) comprising women and social activists will on Wednesday stage demonstrations at the city bus depot, opposite Kadak Bazaar, distribute pamphlets and exhibit posters in protest against the government's failure to check spiralling prices of vegetables and other essential commodities.Clothes gutted
Readymade clothes worth Rs 40,000 were gutted in a fire that broke out in the second floor flat of Dadashyam apartment of Warasia locality on Tuesday morning. According to flat owner Tarachand Tikamdas Jaswani, he had lit an oil lamp for pooja and moved to another room for important work when some clothes came in contact with the flame of the lamp, resulting in the fire. Four fire tenders rushed to the site and put out the fire.
Petrol seized
A team of District Supply Officials inspected several chemical units and three petrol pumps in the Chhani area on Tuesday evening and seized petrol and kerosene worth Rs 40,000 and Rs 70,000, respectively. Stating that inquiries were on, DSO Ashok Singh said discrepancies in stocks and accounts of one A Patel and Company Petrol Pump had been found following which petrol worth Rs 40,000 was seized. Likewise, Maruti Chemicals, a chemical unit near village Manjusar was inspected and unaccountable kerosene worth Rs 70,000 seized, he said.

Gita-Jayanti will be celebrated on December 8 as part of M S University's Golden Jubilee year under the auspices of the Sanskrit Literary Society and Department of Philosophy. Vice-Chancellor Anil Kane will felicitate S G Kantawala, recipient of the President's award of the year, on the occasion at the Arts faculty Staff Common Room at 3.30 pm.
