LUDHIANA, Dec 1: Hosts Punjab Agricultural University (PAU) lifted the overall trophy while the Guru Nanak Dev University, Amritsar were declared as the overall runners up during the North Zone Inter-Varsity Youth Festival 1998 which concluded here today at the PAU.Vice Chancellor Dr Gurcharan Singh Kalkat while giving away the prizes and presiding over the concluding function noted that spirit of competition and spirit of appreciation are the biggest qualities one should possess. Dr Dr M.S.Bajwa, director, Students' Welfare, thanked Association of Indian Universities (AIU) for selecting PAU as a venue to host the North Zone Youth Festival. Sampson David, senior cultural officer, AIU, New Delhi, disclosed tht the National Youth Festival will be held at Calicut University, Calicut during January 20-24, 1999 in which more than 250 universities of the country will participate. Dr Balwant Singh, convener, organising committee disclosed that as many as 17 universities participated in 21 items during the five-day festival.
Overall trophies in music and dance items were won by Dayalbagh University, Agra and Punjabi University, Patiala. PAU and Guru Nanak Dev University were declared joint winners (bracketed) for overall trophy in literary events while other winners of overall trophies were GNDU, Amritsar (theatre items), PAU (fine arts) and Kumaon University, Nainital (cultural procession).
