SRCC, KMC register wins

NEW DELHI, December 1: Sri Ram College of Commerce (SRCC) fought hard to down the spirited challenge by Moti Lal Nehru College (Evening) 3-1 in the Zakir Husain memorial football tournament.

In another match, Kirori Mal College (KMC) had a comfortable day against Swami Shraddhanand College (SSC), pumping in half-a-dozen goals for a 6-0 rout.

SRCC began aggressively but they found it difficult to get past Moti Lal defenders who stood withstood every attack with determination. It remained a see-saw battle till half-time with both teams looking for opportunity to score. It was poor finishing by the strikers that let the teams down in the first half.

SRCC returned afresh after the break and stamped their superiority with a quick goal by Abhinav Raj. The goal upset all calculations of their rivals who took some time to overcome it. Taking advantage of the situation, SRCC pumped in two more goals to take the battle out of Moti Lal's hand. Abhijit and Saho were the scorers this time. Later, Moti Lal reduced the margin through Mukesh Kumar. The KMC vs SSC match was a one-sided affair with the winners outclassing SSC in every department of the game. Kabul Tyagi, with three goals, was the most successful player of the day, playing a key role in KMC's win. Satbir, Joginder Rana and Sachin Harrison were the other scorers for KMC.

N Rly triumph
Northern Railway were given a tough fight by IGT who went down 7-15, 15-13, 7-15, 15-11, 14-16 in the Delhi state invitation volleyball at YMCA. In other matches, LIC beat Shivaji 15-5, 15-7, 15-10; CRPF downed Dhaka Sports 15-9, 15-8, 15-7; and Parshant Club beat Air Force 17-16, 15-7, 14-16, 15-8.
