NASHIK, Dec 3: Nashik Mayor, Ashok Dive, who is touring South-East Asia since November 25, will be presented with a bill for Rs 96,000 taken from the Nashik Municipal Corporation's coffers as the state Urban Development Department (UDD) has refused to authorise the tour as an official visit.Dive is touring Bangkok, Singapore and Malaysia as a delegate of the Maharashtra Body-building Association, which is participating in the Asian Games at Malaysia. He is also visiting Singapore and Bangkok to observe civic works in those cities.
Before leaving for his juant, Dive had sought permission from the UDD, which recently imposed guidelines to curb unnecessary foreign trips of elected representatives. However, Mantralaya officials, notoriously adept at wrapping ted tape around pending decisions, had not yet waved the green flag for Dive's visit by the November 25 deadline. He therefore proceeded on his visit, with former mayor Vasant Gite in tow, anticipating a nod from the government.
