RAJKOT, Dec 3: Making cowherds and shepherds keep cattle off the streets is one thing, and making politicos do so is another, the Rajkot Municipal Corporation (RMC) has found out. Some six months ago the corporation impounded a stray cow that turned out to be Chief Minister Keshubhai Patel's.
Now, the corporation is having problems with another cow belonging to former finance minister Manoharsinh Jadeja of the Congress. The cow was caught on November 21 and auctioned after being kept in the corporation pound for the period stipulated by law.
On Tuesday, Jadeja sent two of his men to the RMC's market department, which is in charge of handling stray cattle, to demand that the cow be returned.
Superintendent P N Gadhvi said it was auctioned because no one had claimed it when it was impounded. ``It is very difficult to trace the cow, but we are trying to do so,'' Gadhvi said.
The municipal coporation and its commissioner, Raj Gopal, are trying to find a permanent solution to the problems of stray cattlein the city. The corporation has decided to settle maldharies with their animals outside the city. Some areas have also been identified by them. Recently maldharies were at the sites and they have taken interest in the matter.
