21-year-old woman found murdered

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, December 4: A 21-year-old woman was murdered by her husband's cousin in Prasad Nagar late yesterday evening. The accused, Shish Nath Misra, has been arrested and booked under section 302 (punishment for murder) of the Indian Penal Code.

The victim, Kalpana Devi, was last seen by her neighbours around 5.30 p.m. yesterday. When a relative of her husband came calling around 8.00 p.m., he found their one room quarter open. The kitchen was empty, but the cut vegetables and burnt daal on the stove indicated that she was in the process of preparing dinner when something happened to her.

Reportedly, the relative then went looking for her husband, Vishwa Nath Misra, who works as a watchman in the same building, 6519, Gali number 1, Block number 9, Dev Nagar, on the Hardhyan Singh Road.

The husband had apparently gone out on an errand for his employers and came back only around 9.00 p.m. that night. Following his return, he, along with his relative, began a frantic search for Devi. When they could not find her they contacted the PCR van and reported her missing. After an extensive search, Devi's body was found in another room which was empty and rarely used. Broken bangles and a pen belonging to the accused were found near the body. The pen was identified by Vishwa Nath. Reportedly, the accused was a cousin of Vishwa Nath and he, along with another cousin, were frequent visitors to the house, where they often dined with the couple. The accused allegedly used to trouble Devi, who had complained to her husband before.

On the day of the incident, the accused came to Vishwa Nath's house to have dinner with them. Apparently, Devi asked him to get some ration from the market, which he did. But when she started cooking, he tried to molest her.

The accused allegedly dragged her to the other room where tried to rape her. She is said to have protested and threatened to raise an alarm. He apparently got scared and threatened her with a kitchen knife. When she still refused to listen, he first stabbed her in the neck and then strangled her with an electricity wire. The police arrested him today from one of his regular hangouts. Blood stained clothes were found in his possession and he is said to have confessed to his crime.
