City govt plan to tackle price rise will be out today: Sheila

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, December 4: The Delhi government will come out with a plan tomorrow to check the price rise in the Capital. Delhi Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit said today: ``The first steps for checking the prices have been taken. I have had discussion with the officials concerned and we will do everything to bring the prices down''.

She has asked the administration to take stern action against hoarders in the city. Nine teams of sub-divisional magistrates would be formed to keep a daily tab on prices of vegetables.

On the power shortage that hits the city in summers, she said, ``By next year, the city will have a concrete plan to deal with the shortage.'' In an earlier meeting with officials of the Delhi Vidyut Boards, she ordered an immediate crackdown on industries and bulk consumers indulging in power theft. She emphasised that the self-assessment scheme for payment of bills should be introduced in parts of South Delhi.

``We will have more labs for the PFA department. The plan is to have about one lab in each Assembly constituency,'' she said referring to the risk of another outbreak of dropsy. On any possible changes in the structure of the bureaucracy in Delhi, she said, ``We have given them four months to deliver goods. There will be no transfers, no immediate changes in the bureaucracy. Right now we are trying to streamline the administration''.

Later in the day, Chief Secretary Omesh Saigal held a meeting with senior officers on issues of civil supply, power and water. He asked Food and Supply and PFA officials to launch an intensive campaign against hoarders. The special targets would be traders who have not furnished their statutory returns.
