PGDAV, Jamia enter semis

NEW DELHI, December 4: Pgdav College, Jamia Millia Islamia, Zakir Husain College and Kirorimal College (KMC) entered the penultimate round of 12th Zakir Husain Memorial Football Tournament here today.

In the first quarter-finals today, KMC defeated Ram Lal Anand College (M&E) 3-1. The match was evenly contested with both teams unable to score till the end of the regulation period. The extra-time too yielded no results leading the match to the tie-breaker. In the tie-breaker, Rajiv Kamal, Amit Chadha and substitute Ajitpal Singh found their target for KMC while the Salman Mirza was the only scorer for the losers.

In the second match, PGDAV College defeated Hansraj College 2-0 with both goals coming after the break. Vinod Sharma and Hitender Singh Rawat were the scorers for PGDAV College. Jamia Millia Islamia and Dayal Singh College encounter was also a closely contested one. However, in the second half, Sumit Kaushik put his team ahead when he beat the rushing goalkeeper. Ten minutes before close Mohd Hamid scored another goal to ensure a semi-final berth for his team. Zakir Husain College beat Sri Ram College 7-6 in the sudden death tie-breaker, Sumit Roy scored the match winner for Zakir Husain to make it 7-6.

For SRCC, Sameer Verma, Abhinav Raj, Kunal Dar, Arpit Misra, Ajay Goenka and Harpreet Singh converted their kicks while Zakir Husain College got its goal through Sumesh Meena, Ram Singh, Jaideep Dhaka, K. Sarvanan, Vinod Rawat, Anand Singh Mehra and Sumit Roy.
