Code for foreign TV channels

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
CHANDIGARH, DEC 6: The Centre would bring out a broadcasting code next year and make it mandatory for all foreign television channels in India, Union Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi said today.

Stating that the satellite channels were "eating away" cultural roots, Naqvi told a seminar on `Media and social responsibility' here, that though the Govt cannot stop them, it will certainly put a control on them by enforcing the code. Asking the satellite channels not to beam programmes which are vulgar and in contrast to Indian culture into the country, he said "channels should behave like a guest".
