Chopra, Sanghvi shine as India take lead

C Ramaswamy
Chennai, Dec 6:India A gained a slight advantage by taking a 54-run first innings lead and then rattling up runs at nearly six an over in their second essay in the 11 overs they faced on the penultimate day of the second cricket `Test' against West Indies A at the M A Chidambaram Stadium on Sunday.

India A were 64 for two at close after dismissing the visitors for 243 in their first innings.

Openers Wasim Jaffer and Sadagopan Ramesh took risks when Ian Bishop and Carl Tuckett tempted them with short pitched deliveries. In the process the latter got rid of Jaffer who was brilliantly caught by Richard Smith at cover. Left-arm spinner Neil McGarell removed No 3 batsman Amay Khurasia who was held by Sherwin Campbell at slips. Ramesh was on 17 with skipper Hrishikesh Kanitkar on four at close.

Earlier, in the morning, the visitors suffered one blow after another, losing three wickets at 93 in the span of 2.5 overs. Ganesh triggered the collapse trapping overnight batsman Sherwin Campbell (40, 157b, 5x4) witha fine in-cutter. SCOREBOARD
