NASHIK, DEC 6: A `Black Day' was observed today by Muslims in Malegaon to protest against the demolition of the Babri Masjid in Ayodhya exactly six years ago, even as supporters of the demolition celebrated it as `victory day'.Responding to the call given by Muslim organisations, including the Indian Union Muslim League and the Students' Islamic Movement of India, protestors in predominantly Muslim areas like Islampura displayed black badges and black flags to observe the anniversary of the demolition. A special Azan (prayer) was conducted in several mosques at 3.45 pm to mark the occasion. The day passed off without any outward incident.
Ten activists of the Muslim League, two from the Students' Islamic Movement and three of the Muslim National Ittehad were detained by the police for a day, apart from the 300 persons taken in earlier, as a safeguard against disturbances.
