EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, December 6: In the third such incident in three days, a businessman was robbed of his valuables at gun-point when he was returning home. The businessman, Sandeep Jain, who owns a shop in Sadar Bazaar, was robbed of Rs 67,000, a gold chain and his cellular phone near Trinagar by four unidentified men. Jain was returning to his home at Amba Park in the Trinagar area on a scooter yesterday evening. Moments after he entered Trinagar, he was accosted by the youths. They threatened him with revolvers and asked him to hand over his valuables. The youths fled the spot immediately. The Keshavpuram police have so far failed to find any clues about the identity of the robbers. On Saturday afternoon, six youths had beaten up some passengers inside a Blueline bus near Safdarjung Hospital after the passengers admonished them for pick-pocketing. The youths even threatened the passengers with knives. On Friday night, two Faridabad steel dealers were robbed of Rs 2 lakh and their Maruti car near Okhla. The businessmen were abandoned at Mitrau village. Hours earlier, on the same day, Chand Mehra, owner of the chain of Mehrasons jewellery shops, barely escaped being abducted and robbed near a busy crossing in south Delhi. Two gun-wielding youths had tried to force themselves inside Mehra's car at 11 a.m. Mehra's driver, however, managed to speed away. The police have not found any leads in any of these cases. An official today insisted that these incidents are unrelated, but admitted that incidents of robbery and other crimes have gone up after the Assembly elections.
