St John's win Kalaswala Golf Cup

CHANDIGARH, Dec 6: St john's High School (Girish Virk, IPS Mann, Sarvah Dhillon and Jagdeep Singh) won the third Kalaswala Golf Cup for old students of Public Schools at the Chandigarh Golf Course here today. They collected 101 points.

Lawrence School, Sanawar (J S Grewal, Ravipreet Singh Sidhu, Sheena Sekhon and SS Punia) finished first runners-up with a score of 94.

The second runners-up position was claimed by Government Model School, Sector 16 (Vikrant Lakhani, Gurbachan Singh Wasu, Col Iqbal Singh) with 93. Brig RS Gill was the oldest competitor while Sandy Lehal was the youngest participant.

Brig Jagjit Singh was the winner of the longest drive for men while this honour in the ladies' section went to Sheena Sekhon. H S Guron got the award for hitting the nearest-to-the-pin-drive. Jaspreet Bhaika won the individual title while Dimple Minocha was runner-up.

Jasjit Singh Dhaliwal, Managing Director, Japaon Pharmaceutical Limited distributed the prizes.

Earlier, Yadvindra Public School (Sandy Lehal, Amandeep Bhaika, Jaspreet Bhaika and APS Khai) were declared the winners. However, the organisers announced the revised results late in the night. YPS did not even figure among the first three position holders in the revised result list.

Nayudu cricket
The C K Nayudu Cricket Championship for boys and girls under-19 will be conducted by the Jammu and Kashmir Directorate General of Youth Services and Sports at Jammu from December 28 to January 2.

School Games Federation of India secretary general B D Gandhi in a press release said that during the tournament probables for the Indian school cricket team would be selected. The Indian team will play Test matches neighbouring countries.

The Jammu and Kashmir Government will also organise hockey championship for boys under-14 at Jammu from January 7 to 12 next year.

Meanwhile, Delhi will host the XX Sub-Junior National School Games in wrestling (boys under-14, under-17 and under-19), judo (boys and girls under-14, 17 and 19), Vinoo Mandkad cricket (boys u-16) and hockey (boys and girls u-17) from December 22 to 26. Entry closes with Sat Pal, Deputy Director of Education (Sports), Directorate of Education, Govt of NCT of Delhi.
