CHENNAI, Dec 7: With an emphatic six-wicket victory over India A in the second and final `Test' at the MA Chidambaram Stadium on Monday, West Indies A wrapped up the series 2-0, after having won the first match at Bangalore by 89 runs. The Indian team, having obtained a 54-run lead on the first innings, declared their second innings at 146 for 9. This set the visitors a victory target of 201 runs in 72 overs and they cruised home in 58.2 overs.
But the Indian batsmen hellbent for quick runs, got out by chasing the wide balls. Left-arm spinner Neil McGarrell, who bowled five wides (a couple of the deliveries landed on the adjacent pitch) was the most to benefit and he finished with five wickets for 42 runs while skipper Ian Bishop claimed two for 53.
The Indian team lost five wickets in the first hour. The first to go was Hrishikesh Kanitkar who ran himself out. McGarell the accounted for Rohan Gavaskar, Sanjay Raul, Dodda Ganesh and MSK Prasad. Bishop accounted for top scorer Sadagopan Ramesh (39 114m,55b, 2x4). That the Indians lost seven wickets today in 16 overs for 82 runs graphically illustrates the hara-kiri approach of the batsmen.
