No weekend in Mumbai is really complete without a fashion show and this weekend was no exception. But this time, clothes were not the focus of the show but jewels. The much-talked about Dianoor exhibition took place on Sunday night at the Rooftop in the Taj. The jewellery was breath-taking but the gems were strictly for your eyes only -- and off limits to the touch. Dianoor simply wanted to introduce their line of jewellery to India, and were not looking for sales as yet. They already have a few loyal Indian clients and held the function as an introduction. A small and exclusive affair, among those who came to have a dekko were Poonam Bhagat, Nina Pillai, Devika and Suresh Bhojwani, Rohi Ooomerbhoy-Jaikishen, Zenia Lawyer and daughter Farah, and publisher Ashok Advani. Everyone was stunned by the jewels -- the stones were large and well set. And the show, choreographed by Sangeeta Chopra, displayed the sets to perfection. "We planned the event in two weeks," she says. Sangeeta also designed the simpleand elegant skin-toned gowns which the models wore. "It was a spectacular evening and the understated gowns made sure that the eye was drawn to the jewels only," says Devika.
And the models themselves loved wearing the jewels and did not want to take them off. "I felt like a king," said model Tarun Raghavan. On the ramp with him were Sheetal Malhar, Bipasha Basu, Fleur Xavier, Aditi Govitrikar and Ujwala Raut. Bipasha normally not a fan of jewellery said that Dianoor designs were so spectacular that she really enjoyed wearing them. "I would have loved to take them home," says she. The luckiest man that night however was Shah Rukh Khan who was gifted a Dianoor watch. He could not stop beaming at his gift.
After the show, the chichi crowd of the city moved next door to the Apollo Bar for supper. And the menu included fondue, Peking duck and Caesars salad. People really seemed to be starving. Apart from the fact that everyone really tucked into their dinners, before the show started most people couldbe found crowded around the caviar pot. All in all, this small and quiet affair was a night most will remember.
