VADODARA, Dec 7: Measures intended to smoothen the flow of traffic in the city led to serious disruptions on Monday, when unannounced reintroduction of one-way norms in the Kalaghoda-Kothi Road and the Telephone exchange crossing-Kalaghoda road on Monday threw traffic totally out of gear. The entire Raopura-Kothi-Jubileebaug stretch, as well as the stretch between the Baileshwar Mahadev temple and Indian Medical Association, Salatwada Road, was jammed for about an hour in the evening. Two-wheeler-drivers trying to cut through the narrow lanes of Machhipeeth found themselves sandwiched between jams on either side.
Police were conspicuous by their absence as tempers soared and vehicle exhaust stole over the two parallel roads leading to the inner city; local shopkeepers and social activists took over their mantle by clearing the jam.
Under the new system, only one-way traffic will be allowed from the telephone exchange crossing to Kalaghoda via Jail Road and from Kalaghoda to Kothi via Kirti Mandir.
While traffic from Kothi can move towards the Raopura tower, vehicles coming from the Tower will have to turn left from Kothi or right from the exchange if they're targeting Kalaghoda. Traffic headed for Dandia Bazaar or Makarpura from Kalaghoda will have to turn right from Kothi.
