Jaya snaps poll pact with BJP
AIADMK general secretary J Jayalalitha has declared that there is no AIADMK front in Tamil Nadu now, revealing that the tie-up with electoral allies in Tamil Nadu, particularly the BJP, MDMK, and PMK was all over. A new front would be formed at the time of the next elections, she said, expressing her unhappiness over the ``piecemeal'' Cabinet expansion.

Rift in BJP over insurance reforms
Just when it seemed that the government had worked out an acceptable compromise to resolve the differences between hardliners and moderates in the BJP over the Insurance Bill, rifts appear to have cropped up within the party. The meeting of the BJP's central office bearers at the Prime Minister's residence ended yesterday without the expected announcement of a consensus.

IA, AI decide to merge -- in 3 years
The joint board of directors of Indian Airlines and Air India has accepted consultancy firm A F Ferguson & Co's report suggesting a three-year time frame for the merger of the two airlines. The merger is proposed to be implemented in a phased manner beginning with the merger of various departments such as operations and engineering of both the airlines.

Bill on 5-man CVC introduced in LS
The long-awaited bill for constitution of a five-member Central Vigilance Commission (CVC) to inquire into corruption offences against public servants was introduced in the Lok Sabha yesterday. The bill, introduced by Minister of State for Personnel K M R Janarthanan, seeks to formalise the CVC (amendment) Ordinance issued on October 27.
