CHANDIGARH, Dec 8: The prosecution's plea seeking police remand for suspended UT chief engineer K.K. Jerath in cases pertaining to allocation of work at Sector 32 hospital, was declined by a city court today.Pronouncing the orders, Judicial Magistrate (Ist Class) Jagnahar Singh remanded Jerath to judicial custody till December 10.
At the very outset, the magistrate asked the Assistant Public Prosecutor to produce a copy of the order passed by Additional District and Sessions Judge yesterday on the revision petition filed by the UT Administration. The APP prayed for one-hour time to produce the order.
This request was made at 1.45 pm but when the APP could not produce any order even until 3 pm, the magistrate ordered that K. K. Jerath would be kept in judicial custody till December 10.
Earlier, arguing on the application seeking further police remand for the accused, the prosecution had submitted that additional time was required for interrogating Jerath. It was stated that the right to apply for police remand in the other two FIRs registered against Jerath had been reserved till some future date. Opposing the plea, the defence counsel argued that application for the same should have been submitted within 24 hours of surrender and subsequent arrest of the accused.
