The delegates recommended that ``syllabi should be framed keeping in view the employment opportunities and needs of the nation'', according to CAS director R. S. Chaudhri. Other recommendations included treating geology and geo-physics as professional courses and introducing geo-science at the plus two stage.

``Another first time recommendation is that UGC should constitute a committee to examine the opening of new departments on earth sciences, as the exodus of students with a degree in geo-science would result in unemployment and frustration,'' Chaudhri revealed. The workshop would be followed by one in Jaipur, the last in the series of four, following which a uniform code would be evolved, sources said. It is mandatory for universities all over the country to adopt 80 per cent of the curricula developed as a result of these workshops, they added.
