CHANDIGARH, Dec 8: A city resident was sentenced to six-month imprisonment and fined Rs 2,000 by UT Judicial Magistrate (Ist Class) Jag Nahar Singh in a bounced cheque case today.The accused, Chander Shakher, resident of Bapu Dham Colony in Sector 26, was earlier summoned by the court under Section 138 of the Negotiable Instruments Act on the complaint of one B. N. Chabbra.
Proprietor of Chabbra Trading Agency in Sector 22, B. N. Chabbra had earlier alleged that a cheque for Rs 15,000 given to him by the accused, had bounced on account of insufficient funds. The Punjab and Sindh Bank cheque was dishonoured by the Canara Bank. The complainant had extended a loan of Rs 15,000 to the convict on October 10, 1991.
