Romesh Sharma aide gets bail

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, December 8: Vinod Luthra, a close associate of alleged Dawood frontman Romesh Sharma, was today granted bail in the Jai Mata Di farmhouse case.

``Even according to the prosecution, he is only the attesting witness to documents of ownership,'' said the judge, adding, ``he has not taken benefit from the said document''. Luthra (alias Billoo) was directed to furnish a personal bond of Rs 25,000 with one surety of the same amount. The Jai Mata Di farmhouse, owned by MP M.K. Subba, was reportedly given to Romesh Sharma on rent for 15 days in 1990. The rent charged by Subba was around Rs 2 lakh.

According to the complaint, Subba was not allowed to enter the farmhouse and was threatened by Sharma's men.

Sharma allegedly forged documents to show the transfer of the farmhouse in his own favour, with Luthra as the attesting witness. Luthra was arrested on October 30.
