Strict monitoring required: Saathi

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, Dec 8: Delhi Finance Minister Mahinder Singh Saathi today said that monitoring would have to be made stricter to improve revenue collection. ``Planning is affected if there is no monitoring of the administration,'' Saathi said, while talking to journalists today.

About his aim to improve the figures of revenue collection through sales tax, he said: ``Businessmen should realise that they are right in the middle of the sales tax structure. And they should honestly pay what is due.''

Clarifying the government stand on taxation, he explained: ``We do not want to antagonise the traders and also don't want to disappoint the voters.'' He said that `leakages' must be checked, while also preventing ``harassment of the traders''.
