Raghavan new Indian Bank CMDMUMBAI: T S Raghavan, till recently chairman and managing director (CMD) of Bank of Maharashtra, has been appointed by the Government of India as chairman and managing director of Indian Bank for the period from the date of his taking charge upto April 30, 2000. Raghavan joined Indian Overseas Bank as probationary officer in 1964. After serving IOB in various capacities, in several parts of the country, he took charge as executive director of Vijaya Bank in January 1996 and later as CMD of Bank of Maharashtra in May 1997.
Mallya gets DCA nod for MD post
MUMBAI: The Department of Company Affairs (DCA) has cleared the appointment of UB chairman Vijay Mallya as the managing director of Herbertsons Ltd. Mallya is fighting with Kishore Chhabria for control over Herbertsons Ltd. Says a press statement issued by UB group: "At a recent board meeting of Herbertsons, the members approved the appointment of Vijay Mallya as the managing director with immediate effect...this appointment has now been cleared by the department of company affairs, government of India vide a communication dated December 8, 1998 under section 269 of the Companies Act."
Export status for jewellery purchase
NEW DELHI: The government will soon confer the deemed export status on purchase of gold jewellery by foreigners within the country, a senior commerce ministry official said today. ``We are close to fianlising the formalities related to it and a notification will be issued soon," joint secretary in the commerce ministry R P Aggarwal said. The commerce ministry is already holding talks with the customs department to work out the details related to the notification, he said.
