NEW DELHI, December 9: Two of the accused in the Hauz Qazi building collapse case have been arrested by the central district police. The building collapse claimed the lives of four labourers and left 13 injured on December 2.Mohammad Naim, the builder supervising the construction work and his associate Abdul Bari have been arrested. All the accused in the case had fled following the mishap. During interrogation, Naim reportedly revealed that the building belonged to the Ali brothers -- Mohammad Ali, Zahid Ali, Abid Ali, Roshan Ali and Musarraff Ali -- who are residents of Zakir Nagar in Okhla. He is believed to have told the police that the Ali brothers got the original property vacated by getting the MCD to declare it dangerous. They, subsequently, got the structure demolished.
The Ali brothers then reportedly entered into a contract with Naim, Mushtaqeen and some other associates to get the building constructed. The local police apparently informed the MCD about the construction work and even deputed an officer to contact an MCD officer to check the matter. The police are conducting raids at various places in Delhi and UP to trace the Ali brothers.
