Youths posing as cops drive off with truck in Vasant Kunj

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, December 9: Two youth, posing as policemen, drove off with a truck carrying detergent in Vasant Kunj last night. This is the second incident of its kind this week, when robbers have impersonated policemen and stolen trucks.

On the morning of December 1, five men impersonated police officials and stole a truck in Pitampura. They later let the driver off in Mahipalpur. In yesterday's incident also the truck driver and his companions were let out in Mahipalpur. Driver Mahavir, his companion Mahinder and a cleaner were stopped by two men dressed in khaki trousers and jackets in Vasant Kunj last night. The men were on a scooter and asked the driver for his papers.

Meanwhile, three men drove up in a Maruti van and parked beside the truck. The `policemen' told the driver and his companions that they had to be taken to the police station to be interrogated by senior officials. The three were pushed into the van, while the impersonators drove off with the truck. The men were tied up and thrown out of the van in Mahipalpur.

In a similar incident on December 1, five men posing as policemen took off with a truck carrying 20 bundles of cloth from Pitampura. Virendra Singh, a resident of Kirti Nagar, had driven the Tata 407 from Jaipur to the Capital and was on his way to Sanjay Gandhi Transport Nagar. When he reached the Pitampura transport tower, his vehicle was stopped by five men in a white Gypsy.

They said that they were policemen and accused him of transporting illegal goods. Despite the driver's protests, the `police officials' insisted that he go to the police station. Two of the impostors sat in the truck and forced Singh to sit in the Gypsy. When they reached Mahipalpur, the men asked Singh to get off and then drove off.
