SURAT, Dec 9: Employees of the Programme department of the All-India Radio (AIR) and Doordarshan (DD) are embarking on a nationwide 72-hour strike from Thursday as a mark of protest against their long-standing pending demands. The agitation is likely to severely affect programmes of the two communication networks. The employees of local units of the AIR and DD have extended their support to the nationwide stir and have decided to abstain from duty from Thursday. The employees of the programme cadre of the two networks claim that injustice has been meted out to them while the Pay Commission Recommendations were presented. A release issued by the employees here on Wednesday said that despite assurances in the past none of their demands were fulfilled.
It was also alleged that the government had failed to fill in a number of vacancies in the department for a number of years, putting an extra load on them. Leaders here stated that their agitation would be converted into an indefinite one if no action was initiated.
