Layers condemn Asian Age
EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, DEC 11: A group of former law officers and leading lawyers today criticised ``an orchestrated campaign'' against the Attorney General Soli J Sorabjee by Asian Age for giving his legal opinion to a private party about interpretation of certain legal provisions on certain provisions of Company Law and the 1994 take-over regulations. Former Union Law Minister Shanti Bhushan, former Attorney General Ashok H Desai, two former Solicitors General Dipankar Gupta and T R Andhyarujina, former judges V M Tarkunde and Rajinder Sachhar and eight other senior advocates of the Supreme court said in a joint statement that ``legal opinions can differ as do judgments of a Court. One may agree or disagree with the opinions of counsel. But statements casting baseless aspersions on our Attorney General, an individual with an impeccable record of unquestionable independence and integrity, are most objectionable and are to be deplored.''
