A gangster belonging to the Chhota Shakeel gang, Mohammed Yasir Navaz Khan, was killed in a police encounter at V P Road early this morning.When Khan, alias Yasir Kalia, reached Navalkar Lane at Girgaum at around 1 pm to meet his girl-friend, a police squad from V P Road police station, which had been alerted of his whereabouts, reached the spot and asked him to surrender. He was killed in the shootout that followed.
According to police records, Khan was involved in at least six serious offences in Mumbai and Gujarat. He was very active in Nagpada and Girgaon.
Police said he was also involved in an attempt to murder at Baroda and a robbery case in Surat. The police squad was led by senior inspector Suresh Jadhav and Laxman Gore.
