MUMBAI, DEC 12: Junior college teachers have resolved to intensify their ongoing indefinite agitation following the State Government issuing a Government Resolution regarding their pay scales.The Mumbai Junior College Teachers' Union (MJCTU) has rejected pay scales as provided by the GR, based on the Sukhtankar Committee recommendations on the Fifth Pay Commission. ``Till now, the Government was saying it hadn't issued any GR regarding our pay scales. They wanted to discuss the matter only after the GR was issued,'' says MJCTU representative Amar Singh. The union received the GR -- which was issued on Friday -- today, according to Singh.Singh says that more teachers will be roped in and the union will see to it that the strike remains total.
Meanwhile, junior college teachers have been staying away from most colleges. According to Lala Lajpatrai College of Commerce and Economics, Haji Ali, principal M G Shirahatti, lectures are being taken by teachers on probation, as most others have joined in thestrike.
