CHENNAI, DEC 13: All India Anna DMK (AIADMK) Deputy General Secretary K Kalimuthu today accused Union Petroleum Minister Vazhapadi K Ramamurthy of backstabbing AIADMK Supremo J Jayalalitha in his attempt to safeguard his ministerial post. Interestingly, Vazhapadi on his part said he was ready to "sacrifice" his portfolio, if it ensured the Union Government's stability.
Reacting to Vazhapadi's criticism of Jayalalitha, Kalimuthu, in a statement here said the minister who owed his cabinet position to the AIADMK supremo, had once again proved that he was not a trustworthy ally.It was a clear case of one kicking away the ladder after having climbed up, he said adding that it was also "funny" that Vazhapadi had become the mouthpiece of the BJP.
The people of the state are aware that Vazhapadi, who had an eye on his ministerial post, was the root cause for the break up of the AIADMK front, he said.
Elsewhere in Tiruchirapalli, commenting on Jayalalitha's reported demand that he be divested of the portfolio,Vazhapadi said he has told the Prime Minister that if reallocating his portfolio to an AIADMK nominee ensures the government's stability, then he was ready for it.
Pointing out that he was not after ministership, he recalled that he had resigned from the Narasimha Rao Government on the Cauvery issue.
Denying reports in a section of the press that the TRC had quit the AIADMK front, he said when the front's leader had intentionally announced that the front ceased to exist, where was the question of the TRC quitting it.
