J J forensic dept to conduct post-mortems

MUMBAI, DEC 13: In a move to improve the accuracy of reports on causes of death, the post-mortem examinations will now be done by the forensic department of J J Hospital at J J Coroners Court.

This follows a recent application to the coroner by Dr R G Bhusale, head of forensic department at J J Hospital, stating that to restore the practice of conducting post-mortems by the department. The practice was discontinued briefly during which a separate team of doctors was appointed for the job.

In an order last week, the coroner granted permission to the forensic department to carry out the post-mortem examinations with effect from December 11, 1998. According to Dr Bhusale, now the forensic department will be carrying out all kinds of post-mortem examinations so that they can get to study different types of cases, he pointed out.
