"4000 Net connections by next year"

PUNE, Dec 13: Satyam Infoway which launched its `ready-to-use' Internet sevice, Satyam Online, in Pune is gearing itself to become an Internet Service Provider and focussing on e-commerce solutions. Vice president Pradeep Lakshamanan who was in the city for the presentation of the first connection expected around 4000 connections in the city by next year. The first connection was presented to Arti Kirloskar, consultant (Internet & Intranet), Kirloskar Oil Engines Limited by Pratap Pawar, president of the Mahratta Chamber of Commmerce, Industries and Agriculture. `` We see ourselves playing an important role in providing services to those Internet Service Providers (ISPs) who possess the licence and helping them to tap the potential of this field, '' he told The Indian Express To start with Satyam has started offering connections in six cities and will soon extend it to 12 cities. The service will be marketed through Satyam's all India network consisting of 200 sales partners and 150 retail outlets. Thecompany will be offering the service using a 2 mbps backbone network Along with the Internet account Satyam is offering eSafe: Protect, a software which will help a subscriber control access to objectionable sites.

According to Lakshamanan, SatyamOnline also lets users purchase on the net using their credit cards. This has been made possible by using the back-office processing technology from its partner Open Market, USA.

Renewals and enhancements to the account will be possible through the rupee credit cards. Another value addition in the ready-to-use Internet connection is the multimedia training programme from Viagrafix, USA which comprehensively covers the usage of Internet.
