Joseph's, Friends split goals, points

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
PUNE, Dec 13: Fighting Vincents Old Boys' Association (VOBA) went down by a solitary goal to Priyadarshini S.C `B' in a pool-B tie of the MHA Junior League, while Joseph's Pride shared two goals each with Friend's Union in the Senior section at PCMC Poligras Stadium, Nehrunagar, here today. In a hard-fought encounter, the VOBA forward-line failed in the scoring departments with the PSC defence holding up well.

Finally it was, VOBA who made an the first goal bound move which resulted to naught when centre-forward Clement D'Souza's powerful hit was neatly blocked by custodian Ritesh Basin. The rest of the half was merely confined to mid-field exchanges.

Changing ends, substitute PSC brought in Jayesh to assist the forward-line, and paid off in the only goal of the match.

Later, Joseph's Pride were held by an energetic Friends Union, who just failed to give up. Centre-forward Romesh Dicon put Joseph's Pride into lead in the 13th minute after right-in Sachin Godse did the spadework getting past a couple of defenders.

Two minutes later, right-out Sagar Kadam levelled the score. The movement emanating mid-way into the rivals half saw centre-forward Vishal Megrathi feed Sagar with a measured pass. Receiving the ball well, Sagar made no mistake beating keeper Amit Roy.

After the breather both teams made inroads on either side until the 46th 46th minute when Sachin Godse made it 2-1 in Pride's favour, with a deft placement past keeper Sachin More.

With five minutes left, Vishal Megrathi helped Friends Union pull abreast for the second time in the match. Trapping, a pass supplied by Gulam Usmani from the left, the ball well he edded up scooping into the net.
