NEW DELHI, DEC 14: Jagmohan Dalmiya, chairman of the International Cricket Council (ICC), today hinted at a ``high powered'' commission to investigate growing allegations of betting and match-fixing. The ICC chief's act was a desperate attempt at immediate damage control than anything else. After thundering, ``The ICC will be decisive in the matter and will not allow the issue to be swept under the carpet'' came the catch. ``If found necessary, setting up a high-powered commission to investigate and inquire into the issue will also be considered.''
This means the ICC will first discuss the matter during its executive board on January 10 and 11 at Christchurch (New Zealand), deliberate on the veracity of allegations and then decide on a probe ``if found neccessary''.
ACB receives summons: The Australian Cricket Board (ACB) said today at Adelaide it had received summons from Justice Malik Mohammad Qayyum asking for Shane Warne and Mark Waugh to appear before a betting and match-fixing inquiry inPakistan on Dec 19.
``We've received it and we've told the players we've received it, but we won't discuss it at any length until they've finished their matches,'' ACB spokesman Patrick Keane told Reuters.
