NEW DELHI, DEC 14: Two prosecution witnesses in the multi-crore JMM bribery case, in which former prime minister P V Narasimha Rao is facing trial, today turned hostile retracting their statements made before CBI earlier.Former Haryana Tourism Project officer in Delhi, K L Nijhawan, and driver Ashok Kumar of the department today turned hostile during recording of evidence before special judge Ajit Bharihoke.
The prosecution wanted to establish that the Haryana Government had spent Rs 17,396 as taxi fare for the then MP, Haji Gulam Mohammed, an accused in the case, in August 1993 as a gratification as he had opposed the no-confidence motion against the Rao government in the Lok Sabha on July 28, 1993.
Nijhawan and Kumar admitted before the court that a car was booked by the Tourism Department on August 4 and again the booking was extended upto August 30, but could not confirm whether payment was made by Haryana Government.
